Along with the use of an MDSA Dental Appliance, the following suggestions may be beneficial to patients.

These methods may or may not be applicable to you.

Weight Loss
If you are overweight or obese, losing weight could help to improve snoring or Sleep Apnoea. When we gain weight fat is deposited into and around the soft palate, tongue and neck. Weight loss will reduce these fat deposits and expand the airway size.

Sleep Position
How you sleep can influence the severity of snoring and Sleep Apnoea. Avoid sleeping on your back as this is the worst position for snoring. Try to sleep on your side for the best results.

Avoid drugs, alcohol and cigarettes
Alcohol and sleeping pills relax the muscles in the throat which can worsen snoring or Sleep Apnoea. Do not consume alcohol for at least 3hours before going to bed. Smoking can also instigate snoring as it causes nasal tissues to swell.

Get a Sleep routine
It can be beneficial to create a sleep pattern, whereby you go to bed and wake-up at the same time each day. You should try to get at least 7 ½ to 8 hours each night. Snoring or Sleep Apnoea is worse when the person is overtired.
